About Me

I have been a professor at the post graduate level in Stella Maris College ,CHENNAI. After myretirement I was for a short period a Consultant, unicef .I was also a Consultant for the Tamilnadu Government’s Water Resources Consolditaion PROJECT-a World Bank funded projected. I was associated with many NGOs and as a Development Consultant while in service and after my retirement had traveled widely assessing their projects. I was on the National Curricullum Development for Community Development in Tata Institute of Social Sciences(TISS) I am a permanent member of the National Schools of Social Work. After having lived in Madras for 51 years both  me and my husband(who is also a retired professor from Loyola College-Chennai) have migrated to Vadodara to live with our only son and family. I was in almost all church allied organisations from the diocesan level to the National level. The CBCI(Catholic Bishops Conference of India) I was nominated on the Advisory Committe of the CBCI for three years.
My media assocation started when in the late 60s I was on the Editorial Board of the New Leader(a national catholic fortnightly published from chennai) I owe much to its then editor Dr James Kottoor who is now the Assistant Editopr of the Indian Currents and based in Ernakulam. It was he who honed my writing skills.

Much water has flowed since those days-having studied throughout in Minority Inistitutions and reared in a christian ethos I am aware of what I have lost and what I have gained! It is a tragedy that one should seek Jesus and his values outside the church.I am fully convinced that the Hindu soul is secular and the hindu dharma which guides the lives of the hindus are totally misundertood by other religions. There is no place for conversion because this ancient land of ours was already oriented to its Creator and the people had connected to the Supreme being of the Cosmos. Much before christianity / Islam appeared our forefathers had their religion. It was their openness and utterly secular outlook which enabled all world religions to make India their home. To me India and all that it holds is sacred.

It seems, the commenter has asked this question, as the name of the author is not mentioned anywhere in the about-me section.

Let me point out that the very title of the blog reflects the author’s name.

Reminds me a comparison made by a Sadhu Maharaj of a concealed unity of all Gods in English (!) Oh GOD !

    YES GOD MEANS

Very happy to get to know about you Ms.Raja. Reconnecting Hindu coverts to Christianity or their descendants back to their Universalist Dharmic roots seemed almost a chimera until I ran into your writings. Your pioneering efforts have opened an opportunity to change the history of a significant section of our people for the better. I doubt whether your descriptions of Husain’s paintings are correct. (they sure are bound to inflame communal passions). Have you seen those paintings? Where can I see those paintings (not the originals)
Are you aware that The Hindu wrote an editorial strongly condemning the agitations by Muslims against the article (or rather against the periodical wich published it) puportedly written by Taslim Nasrin? Why didn’t you mention it?
It is reported that Taslima Nasrin has denied that she wrote the article. What have you to say on that? Is the Outlook article you mentioned, exactly the same as that appeared in the Karnataka paper?

    G. Your logic is thoroughly muddled. It is easy for the Hindu to condemn any riots, WHO DOES NOT? The point is they are also glorifying M.F.Husain despite his degrading paintings. Are they doing the same with Taslima? Also you are conveniently ignoring a couple of other facts: 1) Taslima is herself from an Islamic background. She is not hurling filth at objects of her religious derision. 2) Consequently, she is a reformer while Husain is nothing but a narrow-minded Islamic bigot who has turned his paint-brush into a sword to wield against his chosen targets. You only have to see the Nazi caricatures of Jews during WWII to find an apt comparison. As per your twisted logic, Islamic bigots physically assaulting a reformer like Ms.Nasreen are the moral equivalent of aggrieved Hindus protesting Husain’s Islamic bigotry by seeking legal redress? Ms.Rajan’s article is not about inflaming communal passions but about exposing the communal passions of creeps like Husain who abuse freedom of expression to denigrate and inflame others. Over and over and over people have asked him to paint Muhammad or any of his wives in the nude. Forget nude. Let him paint Muhammad even fully clothed. Let him paint Allah. If he can paint Hindu Gods and Goddesses from great love why cannot he paint the Islamic thing?? If he would have done that no Hindu would have had a problem. Go and ask him to do that before lecturing to Hindus. Finally there is thing called Google. Do a search and you will see the paintings for yourself. Hopefully you will have to good sense to reserve your judgment and comments until you have familiarized yourself about the facts at hand.

Learn to comment properly about what is written in the comment and not about the person who has commented. It is the nature of such people when they cannot logically reply to valid points to use abusive and intemperate language. Such comments do not deserve response. further my queries were directed to Hilda Raja.

It is heartening Mrs Raja to read all your articles, do keep up the good work !
This is related to the point made by Mr. Jaiswal about nude paintings at Ajanta Ellora. We usually hear comparisons being made to the Khajuraho sculptures especially on shows like Barkha’s NDTV. Nobody ever knows/ puts forth these points about Khajuraho. Thought I could share them with your learned readers.
        Facts about Khajuraho
Many times, people refer to the erotic sculptures at Khajuraho and claim that Hinduism is the host to a tradition of nude and erotic artwork on Deities. How can we act modest when the ancient Hindu tradition itself is a host to such free artwork?

The answer is that the difference lies in the aim and content of the artwork. To understand the aim of sculptures at Khajuraho we would need to have a background of Hindu Philosophy in which “Kaama” (carnal pleasure) has been accorded an equal place among the 3 other objectives of Human Life viz. “Dharma”(Righteousness), “Artha”(wealth) and “Moksha”(Freedom from all bondage and suffering).
        1. It is a misconception that since Khajuraho are Temples, they depict sex between deities!
        2. It must be emphasized that Khajuraho Temples, do not contain sexual themes inside the Temple premises or near the deity but only on external carvings. Implied meaning of that is for seeing the Deity, one must leave his sexual desires outside the Temple.
        3. Some studies suggest that since Khajuraho was the breeding ground for “Shaktism”, in which sex is considered to be a sacred ritual, such sculptures may have been included.
        4. Khajuraho also contains sculptures depicting the day to day life of people of those days. Among these, only 10% of the sculptures depict the sexual life of the people of those days. It is obvious that sex being an inevitable part of human life, is depicted in the sculptures. Sexual themes are not of any Deities but related to ordinary humans or at the most celestial beings like courtesans and gandharvas. The rest depict the common man’s life of those days. They give the message that one should always have God as the central point in one’s life even though one is engaged in worldly activities.
        5. In Khajuraho Temples, the idols of Shiva, Nandi, Goddess Durga, Incarnations of Vishnu etc. are fully clothed.
        6. All over India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari deities have been shown in Temples as described in the Shastras and in no Temples have idols of Deities been shown nude and in sexual positions!
The Western media, are primarily responsible for creating the equation “Khajuraho=Eroticism” in the viewer’s minds. They know that by creating and nurturing this equation while concealing the underlying spiritual facts, they will be uprooting Hinduism from its very base.

Good comments are a result of careful thinking . Even in your little post there is an inconsistency within the space of just TWO sentences. In the first you are trying to instruct me in the art of “commenting properly” which, according to you, means not commenting about the person who has commented. And in the very next statement you make a comment about “the nature of such people”. You thus violate your own principle immediately after stating it! In any case, even my previous post was not about you but the illogical and dangerous absurdities that are being spread by reckless and thoughtless Indian media entities such as the The Hindu. Your only fault, if any, is to believe them and then regurgitate their falsehoods to the rest of the world. The issue is not as simple as what they make it out to be. Behind this issue is a violent and cruel history in which an aggressive and predatory religion has been engaged in a relentless campaign of conquest over India for more than 1400 years. To see the continuing tragedy unfold you only have to observe what is going on in Kashmir, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the rest of India even to this very day. One only needs to take this simple but fundamental fact into account to understand the thorough bad taste behind the Muslim Husain’s irresponsible and insensitive actions in disrobing Hindu goddesses. You got a little taste of what intelligent Hindus feels like when you read my comment and felt that it was abusive. Even though you thought I did not deserve a response you went ahead and posted a few lines. Why should then millions of Hindus keep mum?

I would have gladly shared these with you if there were any that I knew of. The best remedy is to subject everything to the severest critical test, separating fact from fiction and information from interpretation. This is the best defense against mental manipulation. A wide familiarity with history is also a requirement since current events are necessarily cumulative results and inalienable expressions of historical forces and processes. Finally common sense completes the picture. Many media-manufactured stereotypes are contradictions of basic ground reality. For e.g. a Hindu India that has been tolerant for all its existence cannot be “made” tolerant by an external “secular” entity governmental apparatus. On the contrary the converse has to be true. It is the tolerance of the vast majority of the Hindu populace, one that has never needed to be educated in the ways of modern western society, that forms the basis of a secular and non-discriminatory government.

    Well..said Govind.

Dr H Raja, though I had visited India numerous times, I wondered why the Hindus are so ignorant and denigrating that even if you hurl filth at them they live likes dumbs and dead. This was not the Hindus that wandered around the world to establish peace and harmony among the human beings without imposing any of their dogmas or doctrine as the Christian and Muslims did in Europe and South Eeast Asia in the name of God. I was born to evangelist parents and brought up in a conservative socieity. However, I was rather ‘brat’ or évil’ or ‘mischief’in the eyes of my parish. I have average intelligence and I would question anything that I find incosistent with what I see analyse with my average intelligence and what is taught in the Church. I later discovered that the preisthood and the churchianity is the root of such teaching. So is the case with the Koran. You have enough statements after statements. A person with an average intelligence cannot grasp the stupid ideas in Koran and Bible.

And the worst is that the Hindu scriptures that are metaphysics are least known among the Hindus in India. And the so-called intelligent Indians are so stupid that they are the Western influence of ‘fashion’ – a term that is fit for those uncivlised corporate criminals that make money out of any debauchery.

And it is sad that the Indians feel inferior in their appearance, strength and langauges. The Sanskrit which is now considered the best langauge for both nerve systems and the computer alike is being neglected and labelled as religious in India whereas German and even in UK and US people are trying to understand it and speak.

If the Indians are still dormant and their pride is only a feeling that arises on Independence Day (I never felt India has ever been independent after the British Rule – it is no Italy is ruling – lol…lol..). then India is playing a looser’s game which has no meaning.

The Hindus and the indians should think and do in favour of the nation and must thwart any ridiculuous Hussains or likes.

    Madam,

I salute you for your views on M F Husain’s Qatari Citizenship. Though I do not personally know you, I am glad that India has daughters such as yourselves. The editors of today have become the social elite – they fight for causes close to their hearts – in this case, Husain. After the offer of Qatari nationality to Husain, the issue, I believe, was debated in all the P3 social circuit of which Ram is a part. Ram is nothing but a pompous ass who has not upheld the impartiality that The Hindu once stood for.

If by religious tolerance, Ram wants us to bring Husain back into India, with his slate wiped clean, let us also give Osama bin Laden Indian citizenship, for the poor fellow is without a citizenship, somewhere on the Af-Pak border! Osama appears to be a milder version of our dear Maqbool Fida, even with his guns and RDX explosives, for in this case, the pen (read paint brush) is mightier than the sword (or AK47s).

    May your tribe increase

    Dear Hildamam,

Excellent and emotional filled letter. Does the freedom of expression mean depicting Goddesses in shameless manner? Even comments on Mohammed Nabi or Jesus, Joseph, Mary, Fathima, ….. should be avoided as we always say ‘Loka Samastha Sukino Bhavanthu’. Instead of peace & wellbeing in one Loka now are saying “Samastha Loka Sukino Bhavanthu” peace and wellbeing in all LOKAS.

“Svasti prajabhyam paripalayantham nyayeana margena mahim maheesah
gobrahmanebhya shubamsthu nityam lokah samastha sukhino bhavanthu”

    May there be well being to the people;
    May the kings rule the earth along the right path;
    May the cattle and the Brahmins have well being forever;
    May all the beings in all the worlds become happy;
Peace, peace and peace be everywhere!

So SITA DEVI, BHARAT MAA, SARASWATHI DEVI are painted in that manner’liked’ by MF Hussain, we should definetly OBJECT, but it doesn’t mean that we should refer Mohammed Nabi or Fathima.

    Best regards

Thank you Hildamam for the comments.

I would like to clarify that my comments are not balanced. Born in orthodox brahmin family, we had celebrated the latest EASTER in BOM-JESUS CHURCH in GOA. So, do we like any of the GOD/GODDESSES painted in that manner which was liked by excentric mind of artists like…… Not at all.

My intension is very clear. Who ever hurts the religious/spiritual freedom of others should be brought to fore-front, without commenting on their religions.

Experts from the speak given by Bhagavan Baba on 25 Dec 1996 is as follows which may spread light on religions:

        “Embodiments of Love!

It is essential to realise and act on the basis that the purpose of religion is to promote unity in diversity, banish divisive tendencies and make human beings lead ideal lives.

The essence of all religions, the message of all scriptures and the destination for all mankind is the same. But because of selfishness, narrow-mindedness and concern for self-interest, religion is used as a pretext for promoting differences and conflicts. All religions teach only what is good if they are studied intelligently. If your mind is good, what religion can be bad? ……”

        Wish you all the best-Hildamam

I neither think or want to talk about a Christian writing in defence of Hindus, because that is limiting our thought and capabilities as individuals, no matter what our religious faith. it is to see the things as they are and tackle them how they need to be.

You write brilliantly. I am in awe of your writings not because I am a HIndu who found favourable writings, but because I am a thinking Indian concerned with what is happening in our country in the name of development, secularism and empowerment of backward castes, minorities, women and what not among a host of ills.

I live with hope of the sanity of the thinking Indian prevailing and I do sincerely see a better day as long as there are people like you leading a pragmatic thought & a realistic view and all of us out here spreading the word “think”.

    In sincere admiration

        Dear Dr. Hilda,

I am glad to have had this response, while being aware that responding to the whole lot of people who comment would be a completely immersing task… and you have better things to write about.

The national and state politicians have from the time I last commented become increasingly narrow in their vision and narrower in action. That while true, I think we as the people are more to blame for tolerating the nonsense and allowing the media to cloud our vision. We as a nation need to come together and tell them by way of our (unpurchased by currency or other medium) votes that we account for some brain if not all…

In hope of a better nation and action from sensible citizens pulling the cattle minded populace out of the darkness that the corrupt politicians seem to be determined to push them into.

God bless you, your efforts and our nation.

    Hi Hilda,

Thanks to your unmatched and prolific thoughts which you showed while writing to Ram.(The Hindu).I would like to discuss something here-

Why as Indians or Hindus we like to ask the Integrity of Hussein when at the same time we honor the paintings at Ajanta and Alora caves.
Did by any chance you had visited them? You will certainly find hell lot of Hussains there depicting our Gods and Goddesses.
Why we should burned out like this when we didn’t shown any resistance to our past?
Certainly Muslims will feel doomed because they have not allowed anything like nude Fatima is there recent past. They have enough reasons to retaliate also.

Scavenging should be started with our own houses…

A small correction on the Ajanta and Ellora Paintings.
The subject of these paintings were stories or personae of the Jataka stories. They might have also been of their Patrons either Kings, nobles or Merchants. The depictions of Buddha and Bodhisatvas were with reverence but there were no unnatural nudity or obscenity or depictions of them in embrace with animals or pets, but maybe with their wives. To compare that kind of Art to Hussain’s obscene grafitti as Mr. Jaiswal and N.Ram of the Hindu had done,is insane and hilarious, if not blasphemous[to Art not to the Hindu Religion].

    1) There is no comparison between Ajanta caves and M.F.’s graffitti. Did you find anything in the Ajanta caves comparable to Hanuman’s tail going through a naked Sita’s thighs? Just because the upper parts of some of the feminine figures in the Ajanta cave are uncovered can these be compared to any work that has nudity in it, for example some of the sleazy movies that you find on the internet? Obviously not. 2) Do keep in mind that the painters of the Ajanta caves were painting subjects that they revered. Obviously, this is not the case with the Islamic M.F. Here, in fact, the contrary is true since Islam is hostile to all representations of gods and goddesses and in India it has a 1000+ year history of iconoclastic frenzy and idol-breaking / defacing hysteria. Let M.F. has not renounced his belief in this hostile ideology. 3) Also keep in mind the changing nature of the time and place. A certain manner of dressing or even nudity might have been OK for certain time and place, perhaps when the Ajanta cave paintings were painted. If M.F. is willing to walk down the streets of Qatar perfectly nude then nobody would object. Or even let him paint himself in the nude. Otherwise he is doing unto others what he is not willing to tolerate himself. This is a simple thing that does not take much to understand.

Excellent observation Sita-ji. I am very impressed with your careful observation and nuanced thinking here. I do hope that more Indians, of all religions and ideological persuasions, take the trouble to be as well-informed and aware as you are about our common Hindu heritage. That, to me, is a sure-fire way to combat the reigning ideology of self-hatred that goes by the pseudonym of “secularism”. Have you thought of starting your own blog similar to this one?

    • 52. Lynda  |  March 30, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Thanks a lot for being knowledgeable and explaining about the Kajhuraho temples.We[ie.most believing Hindus ] know about them not being in the sanctum sanctorum, but most westerners and non Hindus don’t know that. When even so called Hindus are parroting that line,we do tend to get a bit defensive, and our explanations stop with mentioning the sex -scenes do not depict our Gods. Many of us have not been to Kajhuraho,as it is not an important pilgrimage site now.but people do visit if they are in the vicinity.Though other domestic scenes are also depicted,as in other temples, only the lurid gets high-lighted and hence noticed.Normally people don’t notice them also.

Dear Mrs. Hilda: Blog is going great guns. I salute your efforts and excellent all round knowledge + intelligence in your responses we read. I even admire that Catholic clergy who owns Shiva Vishnu Temples and associated with our ancient Tamil, through a Govmntl movement. But it is all like external, wearing a three piece suit in the West, T-Shirt Lunghi khailee saree salwar khameez kurtha etc. etc. The heart is clothed from the interior.
Acts 3:12 “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.” (Its JESUS.). This is from Theophilus nay Luke.
John 17:3 “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.”
But we need to remember and self-realize our single quality of sincerity to ourselves – our inner conscience. Thats what is Hinduism, Buddhism, Ghandhyism or any -ism.
During the trial proceedings, (after 3-4 years of speaking out and doing amazing deeds for the world and in the world, Jesus said “My kingdom is not of this world.” Yet in John it is said “God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son……..that they may be saved.”
If I may, would just tell you that I am the son of Mrs. Jaya Joseph a close associate of Rev. Mother John Houghton and Mother Phrincias. I always thought you were in Chennai and confident I will have the opportunity of meeting a person of your stature. I am in touch with Rev. Fr. L. Balaswamy with my “Gospel Truth” Bulletins. On one hand you take offense at Ms.Raja for writing about the great office of the almighty governor while in the very same breath you violently attack and demean the Chief Minister?? This is the height of hypocrisy. It is patently ridiculous of you to point fingers at Ms.Raja for insulting anybody when you yourself do not seem to have hesitated even for a nano-second in your eagerness to insult her as a puppet with a ghost blog, as a “so-called” learned lady and what not. For your information it is not just great Governers of states who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

There is so much violence and vitriol in just the space of a few lines of your comment. My advice to you is that before expecting decency from others try becoming a bit more decent yourself. Swallow some of your own bitter acid before throwing it at others and try to improve the standard of your own thinking before pointing fingers at others.

Instead of making voting compulsory, make leaders accountable to people, make a law that people can ask them what they are doing and what they are going to do in next five years. They are doing nothing roaming here and there in red batty wali gaddi. They only wait for the next election to come. So in my view voting compulsory is not necessary.

The problem arises here when no one understands the broader prospects of duty. In spite of progress, India leg behind in efficiency, discipline, humanity because of their failure to perform duty honestly and sincerely. Apart from their job duty, one must show alertness towards their duty for family, society, village/town/city, state, nation and by that way contribute to strengthen the democracy. Some says that it is right certainly for people to vote, but not considering it as duty! To franchise vote is one kind of job or duty only all citizen should perform. When the employee working in the office and perform his duty, it is his right to get remuneration for his job/duty or those who want right to get remuneration must perform their job/duty. Same way, citizen has right to enjoy the fruit of democracy and right to franchise their vote must perform their duty to go to polling booth and fulfill it. Else, if he fails in his duty his franchise right can be taken back or restrict their right or punishable. Same as if someone does not work, loses his right of remuneration or punishable or loses his job. On one side many agree that voting percentage should increase, but don’t want to make any effort towards it. It is not true that education can increase voting percentage. If you can make survey, you will find non-voters are mainly educated only.

WHO ARE NOT VOTING SINCE INDEPENDENCE OR NOT VOTED FOR MAJORITY OF TIME FOR WHATEVER REASON HAS NO RIGHT TO ARGUE THAT INDIAN DEMOCRACY HAS FAILED, SINCE THEY DID NOT PARTICIPATED IN DEMOCRATIC PROCESS. WHEN YOU WANT FREEDOM OF SPEECH/ACT, MUST SHOW ACCOUNTABILITY IN RETURN BY WAY OF PERFORMING FRANCHISE RIGHT OR DUTY, ELSE YOU MUST GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOM.

Your accomplishments as a professor and subsequently as a consultant in several capacities are humbling to say the least. I would be very grateful if you would take the time to reply to a few queries I have:
    1. The fact that you have been alienated from organized Christianity is clear from your posts. Could you enlighten us on why?
    2. Currently do you consider yourself religious? If yes, then which denomination?
    3. Although you mentioned in a post that you are apolitical, you display in your posts a faithful commitment to the BJP. Would you comment on this?
I (and a lot of other readers her too) would like to know you better. I hope that the answers to these questions will help throw light on it.

Yes I am not in any organised religion.Because religion is a big farce and it is religions which are the basis for disharmony.Which God is greater and which god has more followers etc.I have been on various committee of the Catholic Church and I gradually came out pyshologically and physically because of its untruths.Strange that religion which has to uphold’Truth’ is full of untruths. But I do hold to the values of Jesus. To be a good christian I realised that one has to be outside organised christianity.Look at the Evangelical churches-the havoc they create. The money bags they heap. The Catholic church is the richest in the world-next comes the Lutheran. What has the carpenter’s son-Jesus to do with these riches-wealth and immoral life?I admire Hinduism-thatis the ‘parampara and its tolerance is something precious. In fact at times I think it is too tolerant.Show me one religion which is open and as tolerant as Hinduism
I am not a member in any political party but as you so well said my leanings are towards the BJP this because that is the only national party other than the Congress.I simply dread the Congress-one has to vote which party can I vote for.All political parties are bad then we have opted for a parlimentary democracy..I hope I have answered at least to some of your queries. All the best to you.Keep up the quest for knowledge and do have an open mind.

Dear Dr Mrs Hilda Raja, It is always a treat to read your articles supporting the Hindu cause. Why is it that some of our non Hindu brethren like yourself,Francois Gautier,David Frawley,Koenrad Elst espouse the Hindu cause much more fervently and effectively than any of our best Hindu orators,Swamis, politicians & columnists. Ofcourse Its wrong to call you’ll non-Hindu because you are truly pefect Hindus, more Hindu – the true defenders of the faith. Especially when the political situation in India and abroad is so much aggressively bent on destroying Hinduism. The aggressive push for proselytisation all over India with billions of American Dollars flowing into the country and the ever increasing immigration & burdgeoning population of the desert religions,is gradually eroding the Hindu race. And the State & Central Governments are not just mute spectators but are actively encouraging in some ways.Temple funds which should have been used exclusively for the Hindu cause, are burrowed into by corrupt politicians and State Governments. And the Hindu stands a mute witness and spectator, not even protesting. Even votes for the same parties as was seen in the recently held elections. The latest assault on the Hindu cause is the Communal Violence Bill which squarely puts the blame for communal riots on the majority community even when it is so obvious that it is more often than not, the aggressive and easily provoked minority community, which initiates riots. The plight of the minority Hindus across the world is worse. Our secular Govt does not even raise its voice when Hindus are persecuted in Pakistan,Bangladesh,Malaysia,Fiji and other countries. Then who represents the Hindu cause if not the Indian Government? Clearly looks like a lost cause for the Sanatana Dharma.Perhaps soon it will disappear from the face of the earth like the lost civilisations of South America. But reading your articles provides a silver lining to the losing cause and brings back a cheer, that all is not lost.

      Dear Gulvady
It has been puzzling to me also why Hindus are by and large at the reciving end.We who have the Hindu parampara and been in another religious upbringing perhaps are able to be more objectiveand discern. It is painful to see and hear how the Hindus are made orphans in India and pushed to the periphery-this after having giving Pakistan to the Muslims.I wish the Hindus have more guts like Dr Swamy. All the best to you

Your excellent comment on Harvard crimson red blog where Swamys case is discussed has been removed. It is a pity that if you have posted the comment , then to remove it. They have flagged off even mild commments. Universties all over the world have become extremely money minded. They do anything for money. David Suzuki who left university in Canada and became an independent worker has dome much better work after he left the University. He calls ” The Prostitution of academia ” as the biggest disease affecting Universities. Harvard has also fallen in line to this. All free speech is being censored by crimson red. I feel you should display those comments in your blog. Thanks to the internet , we all know what is happening. We hope with terrhertz and higher speeds and nanoblogging coming through , one need not go to such unversities . We can all have a huge screen, with a powerful computer with little financial aid and with power , one can sit under a Bodhi tree ( growing Bodhi trees is the best for environmental progress) and learn.
Down with Ivy League universities. Let progress of technology close these universities down and let the future generations learn under th Bodhi tree as stated.

    Dear Madam

I am a total stranger as far as you are concerned and wish to introduce myself as an ex product of the Mds School of Social Work, and belong to the 1st batch of that institute. I knew Mrs Radha aul who was a lecturer there and she later on joined the Stella Maris College in the Dept of Soc Work. I am a social worker and retd from the Kerala Govt a,class 1 officer and have since retirement been working with various non govt agencies in various capacities.I
I have seen your article A TALE OF 2 Presidents and hence this letter to you now. I
agree with your views and would like to add 2 points to the same which please incorporate in the same as an addendum if not inconvenient.

    1. When Smt Pratibha Patil was elected as president, there were a few criminal cases against her husband Sri Devising Patil, and they were not proceeded with due to diplomatic immunity or so and hence he has got a five year reprieve till now. This was reported in the Hindu, which i read regularly and hence if you go thro the back issues of that paper you can verify the veracity of my statement.

.Till her Election as president, no one had ever heard of her or her activities and only after her election was she ever known to the world outside Maharashtra. If not inconvenient pl rake up this issue in the media so that justice takes its own course.

    2. Right from the framing and adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, there was a very healthy tradition/custom that if the president is from the North the VP would be from the South of India and vice versa. Unfortunately for the 1st time in 2007, this convention was given the go bye due to political reasons and both the Pres and Vice pres are now from the North of India only. At least in the ensuing election of the new President should be from the south as per an unwritten convention.

I have read about you and your name from the Hindu on many occasions but only from your letter did I know that you were in the Stella Maris College and hence this letter..Your letter was seen by my brother who has been living in Spore for the past many years and he redirected the letter to a near relative of mine from whom I got your post. Unfortunately I do not have access to a computer and this letter is sent only because I have access to a computer now

As an Indian I honestly do not understand why you keep mixing your religion with being an Indian again and again. I love my country very much, I am against everything anti-national, and more than the Hindus here, i was very much angry at MF Hussain for even painting such things. Free artistry is one thing, but that was just wrong.

And on what basis can you say that your foregathers existed much before Islam an Christianity? Both the religions can also prove the same to you. If you base Islam on Prophet Mohammed then you’re wrong. Thiis is off topic anyway, so I won’t go any further.

And as for your letters, I was happy to read it, and the sordid state of affairs also saddens me. Since I was a child, I had always felt bad about how our system runs, and hence I chose journalism to do my part. I know there a lot of Hindus and Muslims who don’t care or mix religion in their decisions, and I can proudly say i am one of them. All my friends are Hindus, but not once have they discriminated against me. From your words it often feels like you think right now, being a Hindu is being an Indian. And I am sorry to say, but that very much is anti-national.

i hope that the coming generation at least leaves religion from their decisions.

    Dear Yunus,

It seems your decision to be away from Islam is to be a journalist. just to give you a bit of assignment, just scratch the common muslim of his preference when islam is pitted against nation and which one do a common muslim favours. a survey on this could reveal the factual side of islam. on the other hand, a common hindu does not have any antipathy towards even fundamentalist muslims and common muslim has everything against any assertive hindu. love jihad and land jihad being planned and executed against hindus in kerala is a glaring example. i wish you become not only an informed journalist but also dig more in to your own society’s psychology before taking a dig at Dr. Hilda.

How can you say that just like that? I live in a right wing environment, I get picked at, but I don’t mind. Muslims may prefer whatever they want, but why don’t you ask them why? I’ll tell you, it’s because people keep shoving religion up their faces and others.

And about ur example, I live in Hyderabad, and I have been to gujarat, have u seen how muslims are treated there and in my city? Instead of pointing fingers and saying ‘oh muslims are jihadists’ see your own right wing terrorism , being propagated in India, it is growing at an alarming rate. I come from osmania university which has been infested with right wing anti national people, who use Hindutva as an excuse for violence.

Now let me guess, according to you, that is acceptable isn’t it? Because if a hindu harms others it is violence, but if a muslim does it, it is jihad right? Stop the hypocrisy and accept other religions, untill then people like u will keep retrogading India

    Yunus,

there is a difference between a reaction and planned jihad. if muslims prefers to be against the nation as they have always done in hyderabad, your own birth place where pakistan flag had been repeatedly hoisted and pak zindabad slogans were repeatedly raised and you call it as “your own preference” just get lost from India and go to Pakistan as you have no preference for this nation, if that is what you meant as why should i ask why? if not they better be loyal to India. if you as a journalist ask why shud they be loyal to India, i will come in search of you to check your credentials as a nationalist and pursue accordingly. you can call me right wing and i care less about it as every disloyal indian deserve a different treatment. BTW, why do you get picked up gentleman? is it because of your leanings towards Pak and yet to you want to calla yourself liberal muslim. i know one liberal muslim through my life called APJ ABdul Kalam who knows and admits hinduism is greater than dogmas called Islam and Christianlty.

Look at your condescending way of speaking, if u keep bull shitting like that, not just muslims, even christians will start hating India you jack ass. And when did I ever say that I lean towards Pakistan? And I am against any sort of anti-national movement, even against muslims who do not like India. Where is your head?

And come, if you think you are an Indian, come look for me, and come get me, I dare you. And I get picked on simply because I’m a muslim, if a muslim says he loves India nobody will believe him, and they are people like you, who look at other religions disdainfully.

And so just because Abdul kalam said that he is a true Indian? Oh so I have to lick your feet and accept hinduism is greater than islam and christianity to be an Indian? Go read what the constitution says you rag of a man, it is because of people like you that others start hating India.

All I said was that if people keep giving others reasons to hate India, it will happen. And so if Pakistan slogans were raised does that mean all hyderabadi muslims are pakistanis you racist?

And again, nobody will ever accept that their religion is lower than others, if you want people to say that hinduism is greater than it will never happen, and I as a journalist will honestly feel that anti-national nazis like you should be gotten rid of first so that India emerges free and secular.

It is sad that people like Bhagat Singh gave up their religion just to free India and idiots like you are the ones who have seeped deeply into the roots of the country and cause hatred.

That your divine hinduism also has terrorists who slaughter people from lower caste just because they think they are a better breed of humans based on colour? Is that what hinduism teaches you? Just as you call muslims terrorists, there are thousands who are even right now propagating terrorism through hinduism, I prefer you delve deep into the psyche of your own religion first before pointing fingers. Hindu outfits have also been banned in India, and everybody has accepted that it exists, time to grow up.

And oh unlike you, I have accepted hinduism, I have no problem, in fact hindu gods mesmerise me, and i fail to understand why such a beautiful religion creates bigots like you.

    Yunus,

good english and appreciated. now stop and listen a bit about the context. islam breeds terror not only India but across the world becoz it is a dogma. knowing good english i guess you what is a dogma. hindu gods will indeed fascinate anyone who are out of dogmas to that extent i must also presume you are somewhat closer to abdul kalams of this nation so hats off if that is true.

i love to deal with HT as well. HIndu terrorism is a bi-product of democracy that promotes dictating terms using vote bank politics practised by islamic groups across the country. some examples are the control of ayodhya, kasi, mathura and not fully given away to hindus despite the fact that faith of hindus shall be respected above arrogance of establishing mosques over these temples. muslims by default fight for establishing their right of convenience. you as a community denied justice for a pooor lady called shabanu old and deceived by her husband and granted alimony by the court. in the name of shariat law you armtwisted the parliament who in turn repealed the judgement in favour of her husband in a blatant violation of simple human justice. belonging to islam instead of talking about HT, just go and tell your bigots to give up demand for shariat law and pursue common law and that will entitle this nation of a common civil law and you dont find the hindus thinking that muslims can do and demand any nonsense and get away with it.

did you ever raise your finger against shariat as practiced in India. just do that first else tell your guys to accept the criminal law of shariat where your C gets cut for rape and hands for theft. you cant have the best of everything using the brutal vote bank politics where your mosques tell you whom to vote which is never done by any temple howsoever big it is. when you mixed politics with faith we drew inspiration from it for majority authoritarianism and so what and what is wrong? Gujarats and godhras will be repeated so long as islamists mix politics with faith and demand everything in the name of a dogma called islam. islam is the route of terrorism and what you call as HT is just a reaction. remember it is a bit of intolerance that we created to hold you at bay is making you cry this much but you must also know islam grows in india like pig production factory where as hindus diminish in numbers in pak and bangla unlike the socalled minorities in India…why is this?? the generosity of hindus makes you talk whatever you talk now and take on a great thinkers like Dr. Hilda for you are essentially muslim and hence essentially intolerant. so just remove the tag in you that you are a journalist as you dont seem to be and get to the route cause. remember that islam breeds violators of all kind from smuggling to terrorism to seperatism and shameless indulgence in money laundering/hawala and numerous other tax evading acts by default. apparently you dont seem to know anything other than a bit of good english. if you dont know the historic perspective of what ails this nation and how islam is a danger unless toned down as is being done by HT groups, islam would have made this nation perish and you would not have had anything in the hindu to get mesmrised. so either know history and talk sense or quit

hah, I will tell idiots like you one thing, as people perceive, 10 % of muslims are said to be terrorists, and if that is the case, then 145 million muslims are enough to devour the entire world. Oh and please don’t tell me that it will happen, because it never will, because islam is a loving religion, unlike you, I have studied hinduism and So I know it is a nice religion.

You, who do not know anything about islam have no right to say anything. Do you know why there are terrorists? It is because of people like you who create them. Religions bigots like you have also created people who want a separate Khalistan.

This great land is now in deep trouble because right wing bigots, – let me clarify, right wingers need not be hindus, they can be muslims or christians as well, you dumb ass.

And please stop commenting about my profession, it can never be understood by low level religion fundamentalists like you, who only indulge in propaganda. I was selected by Executive directors of prestigious newspapers of this country, newspapers which have been in India much before independence. I’m sure I’m better at my job than you can ever be. And don’t even think of saying that those who hired me are dumb , crazy or anything you’d like to call them.

And did i say i am for sharia laws? i am against them FYI, before you judge someone, just think. the fact that u thought I prefer sharia laws proves how illogical and amoral you are. I hope your children marry muslims and christians so that you get a first hand feel of secularism. And hindu terrorism is not a by-product of democracy, it is a by-product of your right wing politicians, who know how to secure votes.

It is far beyond your comprehension to ever understand what i try to profess. Live and let live, if you so have so much love for India, then you should understand what our own rulers Ashoka and others preached, remember?

And lastly Islam is not a dogma, your own bhagat gita predicted the birth of someone from my religion, remember? yeah, that proves islam is not a dogma, but the fact that hinduism is the supreme and only religion and linked with nationalism is a DOGMA. Remember that, or one day you will drown in your own hypocrisy.

And what about hindus who have burnt or still burn their wives after their husbands die? is that something very nice? i’m sure that is a very nice thing. And hinduism itself differentiates between upper and lower caste people.

So are you saying that islam is responsible for the dalit problems in India? Islam has no catse or race. Who are the ones who treat dalit badly? Who are the ones who have made separate laws for dalits? What does that prove? Who were the oen who killed and massacred poor innocent dalits across the nation? is islam responsible for that?

More than any terrorism, saffron terrorists are the ones we must be afraid of, I hope you know that. And you seem to be happy that HT exists in India. I hope your own saffors terrorists blow you up. Good bye

    Yunus,

You say: “because islam is a loving religion, unlike you, I have studied hinduism and So I know it is a nice religion. Do you know why there are terrorists? It is because of people like you who create them. Religions bigots like you have also created people who want a separate Khalistan.”

The problem with Muslims, including you, is that you will never accept that there is anything wrong with your religion. As per Muslims like yourself the problem is always out there and with someone else… in this case with Hindutva. Here is my challenge to you: go to your quran and produce a single quote from the Quran where it says that worshipping gods other than it’s own Allah is good. Go to your quran and produce one quote from it where it says something good about those who reject Islam to remain faithful to their own religion. Produce one quote from the Quran where it says something good about those who worship using idols other than it’s own little black stone in Mecca.

You will come up with a blank. On the contrary, on page after page of that scripture you will find hate-filled, furious denouncements, incitements to violence and sadistic hell-fire tortures prescribed for those who choose to faithfully follow their own religion and reject Islam, those who worship non-Islamic idols, those who worship other gods.

The whole premise of Islam is nothing but bigotry, an uncompromising hatred of everything except for itself. All other religions are either bad or not as good as Islam and therefore everyone has to follow one true religion. This kind of genocidal monomania is a LOVING RELIGION?

Islam is a religion of terrorism because it promotes that hatred that is the bedrock of all religious terrorism.

While professing your belief and faith in this cult of hatred and fear-mongering you have the temerity to label Hindus as right-wingers? Every Hindutva-vadi believes that a person can worship one god, as many gods, goddesses, or no god… all ways to god are fine and no god is also fine. Every Hindutva-vadi believes that anyone can worship in front of other idols or no idols or idols that he chooses to worship in front of. It is the Hindutva-vadis who are truly loving, tolerant and all-accepting… not the deluded followers of hate-filled scriptures like the Quran.

As a Hindutva-vadi I will go so far as to not only allow you to worship god as Allah and follow the Quran, but I will worship go in that form and in that name with you. As a Hindutva-vadi I see no problem with that. But when your scripture pours hatred on others and goes out and conquers and destroys and brutalizes and ethnically cleanses jews out of Arabia, as Muhammad himself did, destroys Zorastrianism in Persia, wipes out Buddhism from Afghanistan, Hinduism from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Kashmir then this Hindutva-vadi will call a spade a spade and make it clear to the whole world that the Quran is full of hate-filled garbage that has made the world a living hell for non-Mulsims and Muslims alike.

You say “your own bhagat gita predicted the birth of someone from my religion, remember”. Either you are a brainwashed deluded muslim or a liar. I challenge you to cite the chapter and verse from the Gita where this is mentioned. I challenge you to provide the translation and explanation where this is present. How typically arrogant a muslim mindset you display in trying to capture other peoples scriptures to prop up your own.

You have mentioned a whole list of crimes committed by Hindus. Well, FYI, it is Hindus themselves who have come up with laws against dowry, self-immolation by wives as Sati, against Jati discrimination. Hindus themselves, Hindutva-vadis, in particulra, are throwing all the wrong things out and progressing ahead. Why? Because these things are not intrinsic to Hinduism.

But unfortunately for you the backward, regressive and hate- filled violence is in the Quran itself. Do you have the courage to tear out of the Quran all the garbage in it? If you do then point a finger at Hindus who are much more progressive than followers of that hatefilled religion. Hindut-vadis or Hindus or Hinduism… none of these need certificates of good behavior from those who themselve worship hatred and bigotry.

Yes, Islam says be truthful and devoted, is that really a problem? It will punish the worshippers, but never others, in fact the Quran even says that if your parents are non muslim, treat them with utmost care and take care of them.

And another thing, Jihad is not mental warfare. It is being very much misused, Ill agree to that. It is just a way to protect oneself from invasion. Go and check, in Jihad nobody is allowed to kill, nobody is allowed to harm children or women and prisoners are to be treated well.

I can tell you that hinduism is one of the most destructive religions, and even u cant deny that.

hah, if u really are a hindu, go and ask ur scholars to show u the verse where the birth of prophet Mohammed was written. It is sad that u yourself have not known that. Do not be so ignorant.

And lets not make this a list, or i shall point out to a thousand instances where hinduism is a big problem..

i will however point out that every year during diwali and sankrantri thousands of children die or die burning.

You people call urself devotees, and the same ganesh that u worship is later on thrown on the roads or into garbage bins after the festival is over. And I am talking about the ones that are left after the festival celebrated. Is that how much respect you have for ur own gods?

And muslims had to fight to protect themselves. Other kings wanted to conquer and they did. So will you just forget the `1000 years of war between hindu kings themselves? SO if a hindu king goes and destroys an entire city it is all right?

Look at your own kings and gods who havew killed, kidnapped, even ur gods yve kidnapped beautiful girls just for their fancy. Was it so hard for hem to control their carnal pleasures? That they had to go after their own creations?

Your own religion preaches discrimination and killing. Here, this is for you , u asked me to show u something right?

Mahamad appears in the Puranas, Mamah in Kuntap Sukt (in Atharva Veda) and Ahmad in Sama Veda… Among the eighteen volumes of the Puranas is one by the title ‘Bhavishya Puran,’ literally meaning future events. The Hindus regard it as the Word of God. The prophecy containing Prophet Muhammad by name is found in Prati Sarg Parv III: 3, 3, Verse 5.
The translation of Verses 5-27 (Sanskrit text of the Puranas, Prati Sarg Parv III: 3, 3) is presented below from the work of Dr. Vidyarthi.

You can check yourself , it was shown to me by a devout hindu scholar who was a hindu.

nevertheless, I do not have anything against hindu or hinduism, nor will i tolerate anything against Islam (which does not pertain to violence or jihad, as u ignorant idiots perceive). I am happy that this coming generation of Indians are not bigots like u nor are they non-believers, all we want to do is just practice what we want to, and live in happiness. If u wish to spread ur hatred against islam, let me till u , i t will never work, because there are just handful people like you.

Grow up, think beyond that, even ur own gods will not reward you for thinking like a crass idiot.

And last thing, hindus never wanted to grow out of their superstitions, the ones who were educated properly and who understood that social evils needed to be abolished were the ones who acte. you my friend, are just one of those who will kill any one u want in the name of hinduism.

Extremists exist everywhere, but the point is that we shouldn’t be one of them, that is something which u will never understand because you will drown in your ignorance and superiority complex forever.

Your response proves my earlier assertion that you, like most other true Muslims, are nothing but a hard-boiled fanatic who will never accept that there is anything wrong with your religion. For you the problem is always with someone else and something else. Therefore all you do is make threats and justify your own fanaticism… blaming others if you kill them in terrorist activities… There is hardly anything as evil you people like you.

You also prove that you are, like a true Muslim, a #1 liar. Earlier “Hinduism was a nice religion” and now the mask falls off and the true Muslim bigot lurking behind is revealed “hinduism is one of the most destructive religions”. You spew hatred against Hindusm, make false allegation after allegation and yet you can lie to everyone’s face that “nevertheless, I do not have anything against hindu or hinduism”. You have proved yourself to be a true muslim… an out and out liar and crook.

And you are calling Hinduism destructive? This coming from a bigot who believes in a religion that declares it’s own exlcusive truthfullness and perfection, which has destroyed countless beautiful native religions from Arabia, Persia, Africa and India, which continues to persecute and brutalize other religions like Bahaism, Christianity, and innumerable others.

And you dare call Hinduism destructive? What shameless lying. Even today all the religions that have been practiced in India for thousands of years survive. Under Hinduisms protective umbrella countless religions are born and thrive.

You have not provided a single quote form the Quran to answer any of my challenges. You do not even know where the quote from the Gita is and still want to keep talking the same nonsense.

It is obvious that all you know is how to lie and keep lying more and more. You are running on empty and making loud noises without a single shred of supporting evidence.

You say: “You people call urself devotees, and the same ganesh that u worship is later on thrown on the roads or into garbage bins after the festival is over. And I am talking about the ones that are left after the festival celebrated. Is that how much respect you have for ur own gods?”

Yes, because Hindus are not stupid enough, like Muslims, to confuse the idol with the God. Muslims have killed millions in the name of idolatry but are the biggest idolators on the earth. Do you have the courage to throw the black stone out of your kaaba? No, you would instead happily kill a billion non-Muslims before that happens.

And who said Bhavishya puran is regarded as word of God? If you can make stupid claims like that I can also claim that there is a Bhavishya Quran and say that it is regarded as word of god by Muslims. Then instead of proving anything I will ask you to go and consult your Muslim brainwashed “experts”.

Since you are a liar and a blabbermouth I will repeat my challenge to you.

Go to your quran and produce a single quote from the Quran where it says that worshipping gods other than it’s own Allah is good. Go to your quran and produce one quote from it where it says something good about those who reject Islam to remain faithful to their own religion. Produce one quote from the Quran where it says something good about those who worship using idols other than it’s own little black stone in Mecca.

Herein lies the biggest difference between Hinduism/Hindutva and the backward, hate-filled, poisonous ideology of Islam.

Every Hindu/Hindutva-vadi believes that a person can worship one god, as many gods, goddesses, or no god… all ways to god are fine and no god is also fine. Every Hindu/Hindutva-vadi believes that anyone can worship in front of other idols or no idols or idols that he chooses to worship in front of. It is the Hindutva-vadis who are truly loving, tolerant and all-accepting.

Hindus/Hindutva-vadis will go so far as to not only allow you to worship god as Allah and follow the Quran, but will worship god in that form and in that name with you. Hindus/Hindutva-vadis see no problem with that.

If your Islam has left even a single bone of deceny and integrity in your body then respond to my challenge or scamper off into some little corner with your tail between your legs.

To any charge that you lay on Hinduism I have already given my response: “You have mentioned a whole list of crimes committed by Hindus. Well, FYI, it is Hindus themselves who have come up with laws against dowry, self-immolation by wives as Sati, against Jati discrimination. Hindus themselves, Hindutva-vadis, in particulra, are throwing all the wrong things out and progressing ahead. Why? Because these things are not intrinsic to Hinduism.”

And yet you mindlessly keep repeating your nonsense like a true brain-dead Muslim.

And so I reiterate my final challenge to you: “But unfortunately for you the backward, regressive and hate- filled violence is in the Quran itself. Do you have the courage to tear out of the Quran all the garbage in it? If you do then point a finger at Hindus who are much more progressive than followers of that hatefilled religion. Hindut-vadis or Hindus or Hinduism… none of these need certificates of good behavior from those who themselve worship hatred and bigotry.”

With such condescending view of Hindus, Hinduism and Hindutva you are in no position to accuse others of superiority complex. In your self-superior and arrogant juaundiced and bigoted Islamic blindness Hindus are as incapable of progressing on their own efforts as Islam is incapable of having any problems. Forget about “social evils” Hindus have displayed the utmost compassion and reverence for all life. Think about that the next to sink your teeth into a helpless animal cruelly bled to death by a Halal consuming Muslim sadist. If the Jati-dharma was abused there were plenty of reformers from within Hinduism who worked against it. In fact, all Hindu leaders and great spiritual figures from the time of the Rishis to this day WITHOUT EXCEPTION have preached equality, love and worship of god in all things and beings. These were not “educated properly” as per Islamic bigots like you. Even in our time we have had Sri Ramakrishna, Narayana Guru, Ramana Maharshi, Swami Ram Tirth, Dayanana Saraswati and many others who have embodied and preached this universal love of all beings and creatures… and none have been “educated properly”. Do yourself a favor and get rid of the Islamic blinders on your eyes which is making you so hate-filled and resulting in such a destructive and prejudiced mindset.

Here is one more challenge to you: Show me one Muslim reformer who is not a product of western education who has called out the hate-filled garbage in the Quran and lived to tell the tale, who has significant followers among Muslims and is universally revered by them.

So far you have run away from each one of my challenges. I have no doubt that you will continue to do the same with this one as well. In fact, you yourself are a fanatical bigot who believes in the absolute inerrancy of the Quran.

    Yunus Lasania

You write “And muslims had to fight to protect themselves.
That they had to go after their own creations?”

Yunus Lasania, you seem to be an ignoramus when it comes to your own history. How many people Muhammad himself has killed, innocents jews who he could not tolerate since they had rejected his prohet-hood. Just after his death there was furious war and almost all of his immediate successors were assassinated.

Also you seem to lack the basic brains that a child has. There are fights amongst all communities. So what is wrong with Hindus fighting with Hindus? Does that give Muslims the licencse to commit genocide against Hindus?

You speak like a typical bigoted brainwashed Islamofacist fanatic when you say that Muslims had to fight to protect themselves. From the first invasion of Sind in India down to the current Kargil war with Hindu India who were Muslims protecting themselves from? Muslims like you are born traitors who have no decency and no ability to introspect, no truth and nothing except for brainwashing and hatred for India and Hindus. Any Muslim can come, invade, loot and destroy and it will all be justified as self-defence by Muslims. Hindus have never invaded Islamic lands and yet they had to suffer 14 centuries of continuous invasions. And you are rubbing salt into Hindu wounds by claiming that it was all in self defence.

As for kidnapping beautiful women have you no shame worshipping a God/Prophet who legitimized and indulged in sex slavery? Read below how Muhammad/Allah’s lust for sex is driving Muslims, men and women, psychotic even in this 21st century:

    http://www.faithfreedom.org/features/news/men-should-be-allowed-sex-slaves-and-female-prisoners-could-do-the-job-and-all-this-from-a-woman-politician-from-kuwait/

Here is the relevant paragraph from that article: “Although Mutairi’s comment may sound outrageous to many Muslim women, she is actually stating what Muhammad practiced and preached. When she says it is not forbidden she has several verses of the Quran to bring as evidence. Muhammad had many sex slaves and allowed his men to have sex with captive women even when these women were already married. Since the teachings of the Quran are deemed to be valid until the end of the world, slavery and sex slavery will be practiced again should Islam become the dominant religion. The only reason slavery is not widely practiced today in Islamic countries is because it won’t be tolerated by the non-Muslim world. Once this world is conquered slavery will be back and humanity will revert to savagery.”

Here is a Wikipedia article on the Islamic legitimacy for this dehumanizing, sexist and perverse practise:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_views_on_slavery

“Slave women were required mainly as concubines and menials. A Muslim slaveholder was entitled by law to the sexual enjoyment of his slave women. While free women might own male slaves, they had no such right.[63] The purchase of female slaves for sex was lawful from the perspective of Islamic law, and this was the most common motive for the purchase of slaves throughout Islamic history.[64] The property of a slave was owned by his or her master unless a contract of freedom of the slave had been entered into, which allowed the slave to earn money to purchase his or her freedom and similarly to pay bride wealth. The marriage of slaves required the consent of the owner. Under the Hanafi and Shafi’i schools of jurisprudence male slaves could marry two wives, but the Maliki permitted them to marry four wives like the free men. According to the Islamic law, a male slave could marry a free woman but this was discouraged in practice.[51] Islam permits sexual relations between a male master and his female slave outside of marriage. This is referred to in the Qur’an as ma malakat aymanukum or “what your right hands possess”.[65][66] There are some restrictions on the master; he may not co-habit with a female slave belonging to his wife, neither can he have relations with a female slave if she is co-owned, or already married.[4]”

Here is my challenge to you: Show me one Hindu leader or spiritual figure in history who has justified sex slavery of captives in war. Show me one modern Hindu leader who justifies the same today.

Follow this degraded and filthy religion if you want. But don’t raise a finger against others. Or if you can, respond to even a single one of my open challenges. Then say what you want against Hinduism. Otherwise you are like a person wading neck-deep in a sewer filled gutter asking others to practise good hygine.

    Yunus Lasania,

    You write:

“And lets not make this a list, or i shall point out to a thousand instances where hinduism is a big problem..
i will however point out that every year during diwali and sankrantri thousands of children die or die burning.”

And this is because of Hinduism? Does that mean any accident during any period of time that coincides with a Hindu festival will be blamed on Hinduism? If people are not careful and do not practise basic rules of safety or take adequate precaution then it is fault of Hinduism? I challenge you to look at Islamic rituals like the stoning of the Devil in Mecca… how many Muslims die each year? This was a ceremony that comes straight from Muhammad. So obviously by your same logic even Islam is responsible for the deaths of so many Muslims.

But that is absurd and illogical. What is not absurd or illogical is the extent of murder that Muslims engage in with other Muslims. Shias muder Sunnis, Sunnis murder Ahmadiyas, all murder Sufis etc. etc. etc. The list is endless.

Here is my challenge to you: Show me today where there is organized muder of members of one Hindu religion/sect/path by members of other Hindu religion/sect/path. Is it Vaishnavas killing Shaivaites, Shaktas killing Ganpatyas, Hare Krishnas murdering…?

The amazing thing is that in Hinduism there are innumerable gods, goddesses and infinite ways to worship, and yet there is hardly any murdering. In Islam there is one gode and yet there is no end to the organized murder of mulsims by other muslims and even more by muslims against non-muslims. This shows that Islam is intrinsically a violent and blood-thirsty religion.

Dear Dharmocrat and Yunus I think all religions have the dark spots and the while spots. The fact remains that we are one-all Indians irrespective of whatreligion one follows.Religion is man made-God there is only one-there is no muslim God and Hindu God.It would be insulting to tag God with a name like that. There are reasons for the religious fervor but that must not hinder us from respecting the other and consciously accepting the singular fact that we are one. This is needed.Hindu religion is not only secular but did protect other religions.Otherwise how can you account for all world religions making their home in India. It is also historically true that the religions of the Book did persecute and wage wars. But not Hindu religion. It would be for our own good to put the past behind us and move ahead.Instead of picking holes let us respect what is good.In the name of God why should we fight each other?I sincerely hope my blog will not become a battle field but one of love and reconcilation and understanding.Wishes to you both.

Thank you Hilda-ji. IMHO Hindus have no problems with differences. I daresay the differences between a jain and a buddhist, between a Vaishnava and a Shaivaite, between a dvaitin and an advaitin, between a vedantin and a tantric are each far greater than the differences between a Shia and a Sunni. Yet in thousands of years of history there is hardly a trace of sectarian violence in Indian history here and there. In utter contrast the much Islam, since it’s very inception is rooted in violence (both soft and hard) against its own adherents and against everyone else. So even though Hindus are always looking for ways to co-exist with others the self-proclaimed “religion of peace” has never itself been at peace, nor has it left Hindus in peace for the past one and a half millennia. Please note that in his very first comment to you Yunus Lasania level’s a not-so-loving accusation: “From your words it often feels like you think right now, being a Hindu is being an Indian. And I am sorry to say, but that very much is anti-national.” Read his subsequent posts and his deep-seated Islamic antipathy and derision of Hinduism comes through. This is the price that Hindus are being asked to pay for reconciliation… first to give up their claim on Pakistan and Bangladesh, then consent to being driven out of Kashmir like unwanted refuse… and finally, give up all claim to India and consent to slow extermination and conversion at the hands of the Abrahamic religions with their single-point agenda of eradicating all other religions. As per this secularism-weilding Islamist the land in which the Ganga flows, whose dust has been hallowed by the feet of Rama, Krishna, Shankara and every single Hindu deity and God-man, where 80% of its billion strong community still reside… which is considered holy and sacred.. Hindus should give all that up or be branded anti-national. So you see, even in this person’s comments the same bigotry is present. Do you sense any kind of humility or understanding or contrition for the continuing violence by Muslims against Hindus? Quite the opposite. As you can see from his arrogant and indignant comments he is here to justify the violence, blame it on the Hindus and indeed threaten even more if Hindus don’t meekly consent to roll over and politely treat this great Mussalman Bhai with the respect he demands. Sorry, but Gandhi’s life stands as warning to all of us Hindus that love, reconciliation and understanding in it’s extreme-most manifestation is nothing but an invitation to slaughter at the hands of these Islamic hatemongers. The burden of winning the Hindu’s trust rests on the shoulders of Yunus Lasania and others like him. As long as they keep believing in the absolute inerrancy of their hate-filled scripture brotherhood etc. is nothing but a one-sided losing proposition for the peace-loving Hindu.

    Most Respectfully,
    D

    Dear Dr Hilda Raja,

You have been writing a wonderful blog it seems, with many perceptive remarks and never failing to freely speak your mind. Is there any reason that you have stopped writing? I hope there is no chilling effect like this http://www.chillingeffects.org/defamation/notice.cgi?NoticeID=791713. I think you it would be great if you pen your thoughts once in a while for the coming generations!

    Thanks and pranaams

    Madam,
To me (and I am a Hindu) Jesus is the equivalent of our Acharyas and the Church has nothing to do with him.

All I can say is that you should play a national role. This is not out of reverence but because people like you are required if we have to hold on to our secular fabric as we develop to give a better deal to our vulnerable population. Sane voices such as yours require a national platform so that we learn to live with each other, learning from our differences rather than killing each other.

    My pranams to you.

    Jai Hind.

    Dear Ms.Hildaji,

I came to know about you from your reply to the article by Julio Ribeiro in the Indian express. The fact that you opted to open up even though at the age of 78, as you admitted yourself, indicates the pressure that would have been created within you, by such a feeling, for quite a while. Such feelings do not surface all of a sudden.
I grew up in an environment where Christians were all around and as a Hindu, I never thought even for once, that they are any different, thanks to the less educated parents who upheld human values above everything else.
I left Kottayam at an early age and served the Indian army for over 25 years. Took voluntary retirement as a LtCol and served an educational conglomerate for another 10 years. Travelled extensively throughout the length and breadth of our country both during the Defence Service tenure and while in ICFAI, an Educational outfit based at Hyderabad. I was part of an ambitious expansion project called INC by ICFAI and was the Registrar of 173 Business Schools across India including one in Srilanka.
All through my journey after leaving Kottayam in the year 1971 and after doing Engineering, I noticed that Christian clergy has been constantly at work to damage the fabric of secularism in this country. Most of it is led by Keralites who hail from my part of the state. It is true at Jammu or Udhampur in J&K, True anywhere in Trivandrum, Nagercoil and Surroundings or Sikkim or Mizoram or Shillong or Jamnagar and any location which I visited and witnessed in between these four spots that I indicated. The closest friends from Kerala speak a different language when it comes to luring a well meaning and poor or less educated Hindu, to convert. I stay at Hyderabad and am witness to the designs which is rampant in Telangana and AP. There is not a day when I do not see the evil designs of the zealots who work to convert and only to increase the numbers.
I fully agree with your recommendation to stop the funding of the NGOs from abroad. That would be a major step in stemming the rot. Like Gurudas Kamat who quoted about his servants converted by allurement under his nose, I can narrate the stories of at least four families here at Hyderabad.
I have lived through the news of Mariapalli murder case by the Priest, Abhaya murder case, Sister Jesme’s disclosures through her book, the recent nun’s case of ill treatment and abandoning at Kochi airport and so on and so forth. Yet, you can see none of these reported anywhere in Indian Press much less pursuing these. The next logical step by the Government should be to control the Media especially those who report selectively.
The land grabbing by unfair and cunning means is something which is rampant. Suddenly you find a cross coming up at a junction and there will be a so called’Priest’ who is the perpetrator. Local tensions are created since this has become unbearable to others,in many situations.
It is nice to see that debates on Conversion has commenced. The army of priests and nuns who feed on the exchequer to execute the evil designs of Vatican and the agencies which fund with an aim to destabilise India, must be made accountable. The arrogance of some of these recruits indicates the intensity of process that goes on in the seminaries which are doing the same things that are done in madrassas where illiterate teach the young minds and produce children who cannot look beyond.
You said it right, that one has to look for Jesus, outside the church! Some Christiain said and I quote, ” The last Christian died on the Cross”. So very apt!!!

Incidentally Dr. Hilda, one of your husband’s former Colleagues in Loyola, Dr. Felix Paul, will be getting in touch with you. Please pass on this message to my good-young Friend Emmanuel Raja.

    Dear Mrs Hilda,

Have read your writing and forwards doing the rounds so i Goggled you came to this blog and was delighted to read your harsh letter to Cardinal Oswal Gracias.

Rather late discovery of you but I am glad. I need to introduce myself: Group Capt MS Deshpande, retired from IAF in 2008, served Education Institutions for 5 years and now active on Social Front. Reside in Pune, now staying with Son in Melbourne, Australia last 2 months.
My views largely match your perception of India. I was looking from other communities who have similar perception about India. To put it in few words I have read Swmi Vivekananda extensively, and admire his Catholicity for Universal Religion on Vedantic Principles !
We can do wonders for preserving Indian Heritage and promote World Peace !!
